Our Children. Our Schools. Our Future.

Reelect

Great Valley School Board Region 1

If reelected, I will continue to …

  • Maintain Great Valley’s reputation for providing a high quality education and being one of the best school districts in the area.
  • Use my business and leadership skills to set goals that are fiscally responsible and develop practical plans to achieve these goals.
  • Listen to our community to make decisions that take into account the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the high quality of education in Great Valley is not affected by continuing growth of the district.

Our children and schools need dedicated people with competence and experience on the school board. That’s why I urge you to vote for Samantha. She has the common sense, integrity and expertise that our community deserves on the board.

Our Children.
Our Schools.
Our Future.

Our kids should be learning in school, but our school board shouldn’t be learning on the job.  Elect leaders with experience, elect Great Valley parent Samantha Jouin.

About Samantha Jouin

My Family

I was born in Philadelphia, and raised in Lower Merion Township, to parents who strongly believed in the value of a good education.  I have 2 younger siblings who live in the Philadelphia area.

While on a junior year in college program in France, I met my husband, François. We married in 1990 and lived for 10 years in France, before moving back to the United States. It was important to us to move to a good school district, to help ensure our children’s future, so in the year 2000 we moved to the Great Valley School District. We have 2 children, both of whom have benefitted from the quality education that is offered here: Eliza, age 23, GVHS class of 2016 and Alex, age 20, GVHS class of 2019. I have 5 nieces and nephews who are current students or recent graduates of nearby school districts, so I can’t help but keep abreast of issues facing students throughout our area.

My Education

I attended Lower Merion High school, and graduated from Columbia University in 1989 with a BA in Political Science. I then went on to get a graduate business degree in Toulouse, France. Honors I received during my schooling included National Merit Scholar, Dean’s List and first-in-class at business school. Studying in a foreign country alongside students who had grown up in a very different education system really showed me how schools form people: I understand the difference that a good school district can make.

My Career

I have spent my entire career in the healthcare industry, and work for a Fortune 100 company as a senior director in the US business. During my 25-year career, I have worked on developing and launching new devices and treatments to markets around the world to improve patient care. I have always taken a special interest in mentoring and coaching others, and have served in leadership positions in several programs at work that help employees with their professional development.

My Civic Involvement

I have volunteered for many organizations throughout my adult life. I was a volunteer tutor for elementary school students when I was in high school and college. More recently, I have mentored two students throughout their high school careers as part of Chester County Futures, a program which provides academic support and mentoring to enable disadvantaged youth to succeed in school and make it to college. I am proud to say that my first mentee went on to graduate from Cabrini College and get her teaching certificate, and is now teaching school right here in Chester County.

For more than 15 years, I have been an alumni interviewer for Columbia University, interviewing high school seniors who are applying there. Meeting so many wonderful students from local school districts has provided me with helpful insights into how our schools are preparing our kids for the future.

I have served as vice president of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) Greater Philadelphia chapter, and was honored to be on the Board of Directors of this 800+ group of local women who come together to further their professional development and foster networks that promote women in business.

I have also been active in my synagogue’s social action committee, where I have interacted with shelter residents, played bingo with veterans at the VA hospital and delivered food packages to seniors in need, as well as volunteering in the religious school. I served on the synagogue’s board of directors in the past, including at a pivotal time when we decided to raise funds and invest in a building of our own. I was a Girl Scout troop leader when my daughter was younger, and when I lived in France, I was vice president of my city’s French-American club.

My Interests

I love to experience new places and travel with my family, and look forward to a post-pandemic world where I can do that again. I try to maintain an active lifestyle, and enjoy hiking on our beautiful local trails and swimming at the Upper Main Line Y. I am an avid reader and am in 2 local book clubs. Cooking is also a favorite past-time.
